The IEU is seeking applications from enthusiastic and dynamic education professionals or industrial staff to join our team of Organisers in the IEU’s Canberra office. The position is suitable for teachers or other education professionals with a history of union involvement but could also attract someone with broad experience in the sector or other areas of industrial relations.
Your commencement date would be from the start of Term 1, 2024 or as agreed.
Duties
Organisers’ duties include attending at workplaces to meet with members and non-members, implementing IEU campaigns, representing and supporting members in relation to disputes and problems, and answering member queries.
Familiarity with issues affecting teachers at all stages of their career and the current educational agenda is highly desirable. This includes knowledge of TQI or NESA requirements as they affect teachers.
Organisers generally work from 9am-5pm but attendance at meetings before school and after school outside these hours will be required from time to time. There is considerable flexibility in the working hours and the IEU would be prepared to consider a request to work for four days per week. Occasional weekend and evening work will be required. Overnight travel may also be necessary.
A current driver’s licence is essential.
Conditions
The successful applicant will be appointed under contract by the IEU Executive and will be accountable to the Secretary in the first instance.
Salary will be in accordance with the IEU Officers’ salary scale that has links to NSW Catholic systemic schools promotion rates. Starting salary is usually one incremental step on the Officers’ scale above the salary the applicant would earn in 2024.
Organisers receive time in lieu of one day per month, additional annual leave, closedown leave over the Christmas period and other conditions in line with or above industry standards.
